The new showroom for the Design Collective Group opened on September 2 with a welcome event attended by several members of the local design community. It was great fun, but it was the champagne and great conversations with friends and colleagues that added the most to the festivities.

Michael Thomas, FASID and Michael Baker hosted the event to introduce their new studio at the Scottsdale Design District in Scottsdale, AZ. This new endeavor in the desert valley features custom and production cabinetry, decorative hardware, tile collections and unique, one-of-a-kind accessories from artists and craftspeople from around the globe.

Thanks to all who dropped by to help kick-off this new business and Michael and Michael look forward to seeing you again.

Interior Designers Need To Trust Their Instincts.

Henry Ford was once asked if he did customer research.  He emphatically answered “NO!” When asked why not, he said, “Because if I had asked my customers what they wanted, they would have said they wanted a better buggy whip.”  That’s a great story but it offers up a lesson.  You can research all day long but what your clients think they want is not what they might actually need from you.  It highlights the importance of occasionally trusting your gut instincts, experience and expertise when developing a design solution. After all if they truly knew how to “fix” their work or home environment, wouldn’t they be even more inclined to do it themselves?
